Hours: Monday through Friday 9-5 Saturday 9-3 Closed Sunday Tours 10AM Friday and Saturday (1½ hour tours); Tour fee: Ages 3 – 16 $3 each, over 16 $5 each. From the garden to the exhibit to the laboratory, this tour takes you through the lifecycle of butterflies, what is necessary for a butterfly garden and habitat, many native Florida species in central and northern Florida, watching a caterpillar pupate into a chrysalis (almost every tour), watching egg production, visiting the larvae laboratory, looking into the emerging laboratory, witnessing how butterflies are safely packed and shipped, and more. Butterfly Garden No fee Open any time the farm is open This is NOT a groomed park garden. Shady Oak’s butterfly garden is full of native plants, introduced plants, and plants that most people call weeds. These weeds are left for butterflies for eggs and larvae as well as for a nectar source.
